Before You Move

1. Inform your resident advisor/ previous landlord that you are about to move. Reserve elevators if necessary.

2. Make arrangements with friends or movers to help you move on a certain date. Make sure you have adequate transportation to move all your things.

3. Give your previous’ apartment’s post office your new address. In the US, there is a standard form that you fill out so that all your mail will be forwarded to the new location.

4. Collect boxes. You can ask for slightly used boxes in supermarkets or even from your academic department in school. You can also buy boxes especially made for moving. They’re cheap but they add up to a bit of money if you buy many.

5. Wrap breakables with towels, lots of newspapers and if you can afford, it bubble wrap.

6. Put heavy items at the bottom. But distribute heavy items among boxes so the boxes will be easier to carry and will not give way at the bottom.

7. Before you seal your boxes, label them on each side. Since many of the boxes will be stacked, it’ll be easier to identify contents when the labels are on the side and not on top.
